Thoughts shape reality.

My heart breaks every time I speak with someone who is chronically unhappy. These individuals find themselves cyclically tore down by internal negativity. They have so many things to be grateful for, yet, cannot seem to bring those realities to the forefront of their daily living. Instead, harmful and hurtful thoughts continuously triumph. You can witness this type of thought process in someone who, after years of hard work and determination, has experienced an exciting and sought after promotion. Yet, almost immediately after receiving the news this individual is suddenly and deeply stuck on the possibility that with this promotion may come additional responsibilities and stressors.

Thoughts shape outcomes.

Negative thought processes can cause major destruction when we allow them to determine our reality. These circumstances rear their ugly heads when a curiosity grows into a continuous thought…. which develops into an assumption of truth… which them manifests into an unwavering deep belief of truth. This completely false reality, conceived strictly from mere curiosity, has now become a toxic and completely untrue way of living, believing, and existing.

Thoughts shape your future!

For better or for worse, your thoughts shape your reality, outcomes, and future. If you can learn how to utilize the power of your thoughts to manifest negative dynamics in your life, why is it so difficult to believe can use that same power of thought to create significantly more positive truth!

The notion and response of positivity comes more naturally to some than others. That said, anyone can learn these skills! Below you will find some helpful tips to turn that frown upside down! ☺

  • Be Kind to Yourself. We are all uniquely imperfect people. We all have flaws, challenges, and areas of weakness. The best thing we can do is to understand what these things are… and then move forward. This does not mean you accept things you can change. It means you change the things you can when you can. You cannot change the past. Do not live there. Live in the present and aim to be the best version of yourself!

  • Practice Positivity. When a problematic situation occurs, use this as an opportunity to put a positive spin on the situation. If this is too challenging or truly an unreasonable request of yourself, take this time to find something to be grateful for in your life. This can be something seemingly insignificant (free cup of coffee), but much appreciated (a FREE cup of COFFEE after a bad night of sleep!).

  • Redirect Your Thoughts. When you find your mind wondering into murky waters, acknowledge what is going on and redirect. For instance, if you are driving home and distracted by the huge mountain of laundry you have to do when you get home, take a breath and look at the beautiful sunset. Rainy day? Take time to appreciate the process in which the earth revitalizes itself with purifying water. (… See what I did there?! ☺)

  • Surround Yourself with Sunshine! Toxic people bring toxic thoughts and behaviors in your life. It is as simple as that. Choose the people you surround yourself with wisely. You take on the behaviors and thoughts processes of those in your immediate circle. If you are finding some in your circle are chronically cynical, it may be time to branch out and widen your circle.

  • Smile! Research shows that the simple act of smiling, whether you are actually happy enough to smile or not, actually improves mood! When all else fails, force a smile, turn on a YouTube video with cute kittens or laugh at some great epic fails (where no one gets hurt, of course) and get to smiling! It’s good for your health! ☺

You have the power to create your reality. With some gentle shifts in where you let your mind go, you can welcome in a beautiful new outlook on life!
